What is CDS Technology?

Inside Rotobec’s Cylinder Defense System

Hydraulic cylinders are some of the most critical and vulnerable components on a grapple. Side impacts, debris, and constant exposure to harsh working conditions can quickly turn minor damage into costly downtime.

That is why Rotobec developed CDS Technology, short for Cylinder Defense System. This patented cylinder design rethinks how hydraulic cylinders are protected, delivering a new level of durability where it matters most.

What Is CDS Technology?

CDS Technology is Rotobec’s patented approach to hydraulic cylinder protection. It improves durability by redesigning the cylinder itself, not by adding external guards.

Two key design changes set CDS apart:

  • The hydraulic return channel is moved inside the cylinder, away from impact zones

  • The cylinder barrel features increased wall thickness for improved side impact resistance

These changes protect critical hydraulic components and help extend cylinder life in demanding applications.

Why It Matters in the Field

In real-world operations like forestry, scrap, waste, and recycling, cylinder contact is unavoidable. CDS Technology helps:

  • Reduce damage from side impacts

  • Protect hydraulic pathways from debris strikes

  • Minimize unplanned downtime and repairs

The result is a more reliable grapple that stays productive longer.

Built to Protect Productivity

CDS Technology reflects Rotobec’s focus on designing equipment for how it is actually used. By protecting the most vulnerable parts of the cylinder, the Cylinder Defense System helps operators work with confidence and owners reduce maintenance costs.
